MSB008240 Smokey’s Track Personal Use Firewood Area

The Smokey’s Track Personal Use Firewood Area (PUFA) opens November 1, 2025. This PUFA is located west of Newman Park in Willow, AK. Firewood harvest shall only remove beetle-killed spruce within 100 feet of Smokey’s Track. Access is primarily by ATV or snow machine with gross vehicle weight of less than 1,500 lbs. Please refer to the MSB008240 Smokey’s Track PUFA Map.

A permit is required and may be obtained from the Mat-Su Borough E-Commerce Webpage at https://ecommerce.matsugov.us/ (please note that an email and credit card are required to create an ecommerce account). Computers with internet access are available at the Willow Library or the Land and Resource Management Division office located at 350 E Dahlia Ave., Palmer, between the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

There will be NO charge for the permit or wood removed from this unit and will not count towards the maximum of ten (10) cords per household per year from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The permit must be in your possession during the removal of wood from the site. Permit expires at the end of the calendar year. The firewood area will close after all available wood has been removed or by April 30, 2026, whichever is sooner.
