Salvage of spruce damaged by the recent bark beetle outbreak and decadent birch is being offered from approximately 33 acres. Access to the designated harvest area will be from South Trail Ridge Road. An estimated volume of 198 cords of timber is expected to be extracted from the 33-acre timber harvest area. Portions of the harvest area may only be harvested in winter when the ground is frozen. A separate Personal Use Firewood Area is also being proposed on approximately 8 acres. The Trail Ridge Firewood Area will open 11/17. It is north of the proposed timber harvest, west of S. Trail Ridge Road. Access is primarily by ATV or snowmachine, when the ground is dry or frozen and snow covered, respectively. A firewood permit is required and may be obtained from the E-Commerce website at https://ecommerce.matsugov.us.
A firewood permit costs $25.00, and a cord costs $25.00 with a maximum of ten (10) cords per household per year. The permit must be in your possession during removal of wood from the area.
