Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)
The LEPC’s primary task is to develop an emergency plan to prepare for and respond to chemical emergencies. Since the Mat-Su LEPC has an “all hazards” focus, such planning has been broadened to include ensuring borough-wide preparedness for natural and manmade disasters in addition to chemical-related incidents. The LEPC reviews Tier II chemical inventory reports submitted from local businesses, coordinates sharing the information with local fire and EMS service areas, and responds to public requests of this data. With members from government, public safety, utilities, health care, media, and the public, the LEPC meets quarterly and plays a vital role in bringing local agencies together for emergency planning networking as well as creating and assisting with emergency operations plans and updates, all of which is vital to protecting community safety.
