MSB Employee Benefit: Tax Advantage Accounts
A side-by-side comparison of two accounts. On the left, “Flexible Spending Account (FSA)” lists: for medical, dental, and vision expenses; money is set aside pre-tax; all funds are available immediately. On the right, “Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA)” lists: for child or adult dependent care; money is set aside pre-tax; changes can be made mid-year if costs change. Simple icons illustrate healthcare items on the left and a family on the right.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
A Flexible Spending Account is a special account you put pre-tax money into to pay for eligible healthcare expenses like copays, prescriptions, or medical supplies. It helps lower your taxable income, but most funds must be used within the plan year.
Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA)
A Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account is a special account you put pre-tax money into to pay for eligible dependent care expenses like daycare or after-school care for your kids. This account can also be used to care for an adult dependent. It helps lower your taxable income, but most funds must be used within the plan year.
