Background
The GPRA Management Plan update began in Fall 2025 and builds on the original 2017 development plan. The purpose of the update was to ensure that management priorities continue to reflect current recreation use, community needs, and long-term stewardship of one of the Mat-Su Borough's most popular recreation areas.
Public involvement played an important role throughout the planning process. More than 700 people participated in a public survey, stakeholders contributed through focus group discussions, a virtual public workshop received more than 900 views, and community members attended an open house at the GPRA Chalet. Following release of the draft plan, the Borough also held a 30-day public review and comment period from April to May 2026.
Feedback from these efforts helped shape the goals, strategies, and priorities contained int he final plan. While not every idea was included as a priority, future opportunities may be considered as needs, support, and resources change over time.
