Railroad Crossing Management Program
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Railroad Crossing Management Program is focused on enhancing safety and accessibility at roadway-rail intersections throughout the region. In close coordination with the State’s Alaska Railroad, the Borough works to improve, replace, and install new road crossings that support safe and efficient travel for both motorized and non-motorized users. These crossings are critical links that connect residential neighborhoods, commercial centers, industrial zones, and recreational areas, ensuring uninterrupted mobility and reducing the risk of accidents. Through strategic planning, engineering, and investment, the program strengthens transportation infrastructure while supporting the Borough’s long-term growth and connectivity goals.
The Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) permits the Matanuska-Susitna Borough infrastructure that is within the ARRC Right-of-Way. Permitting would include road crossings, roads and trails that parallel the tracks, and other structures.
See the ARRC link below to view a map of all permits within the ARRC Right-of-Way including those issued to the MSB.
