Noise Complaints

Noise can significantly impact quality of life, particularly when it interferes with sleep, peaceful enjoyment of property, or neighborhood compatibility. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has adopted regulations to balance residents' rights to enjoy their property while allowing for reasonable activities and events. This article provides an overview of Borough noise regulations, temporary noise permits, and the process for filing a noise complaint.

Ordinances

The Borough's noise ordinances recognize that excessive noise, amplified sound, and vibration can negatively affect public health, safety, welfare, and the peaceful enjoyment of property. The code regulates amplified sound devices such as radios, stereos, loudspeakers, musical instruments, and similar equipment.

• Complainant name and contact information.

• Location of the alleged violation.

• Property owner information, if known.

• Information about the person or activity causing the violation, if known.

• A detailed description of the noise issue, including dates, times, duration, and any supporting documentation such as photographs, videos, or other evidence.

How to file a noise complaint

When reporting a noise issue, provide as much detail as possible, including:

1. Detailed information helps Code Compliance staff investigate complaints more effectively and determine whether the activity may violate Borough code.

   • Dates and times the noise occurs.

   • Whether the noise is continuous or intermittent.

   • The source of the noise, if known.

   • How the noise affects neighboring properties.

   • Any recordings, photographs, or written logs documenting the activity.

2. Submit A General Complaint Form

   • Fill out a General Complaint Form;

   • Email to code.compliance@matsugov.us or

Temporary Noise Permits
