Public Display of Fireworks Permit
Planning a public fireworks display in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough? You’ll need a permit to ensure your event is safe, legal, and properly coordinated with emergency services.
Overview
Fireworks are only allowed in the Mat-Su Borough during specific times, such as New Year’s Eve from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Outside of these designated times, a Public Display of Fireworks Permit is required under MSB Code 8.35.
This permit ensures that fireworks displays are conducted safely and with proper oversight from emergency services.

Submit the completed application to the Permit Center: Apply Online

Include the following required documents:
- $25 permit fee
- Proof of liability insurance or a bond of at least $1,000,000 (MSB must be listed as additional insured)
- Letter of non-objection from MSB Emergency Services
- State of Alaska Permit to Use Dangerous Fireworks
- Map of the display location

Notify the Emergency Services Department at least 72 hours before the event at (907) 373-8800.
Permit Conditions
By accepting the permit, you agree to:
- Take all necessary safety precautions for storage, transport, and ignition of fireworks.
- Use only fireworks permitted by the State of Alaska.
- Accept responsibility for any injury or damage resulting from the display.
- Hold the Borough harmless from any legal claims related to the event.
Violations may result in penalties under MSB 8.35.080.
