Trails maintainedThe Mat-Su Ski Club attempted to groom the Independence Mine trails last Saturday and Thursday however "Flat light" conditions prevented our volunteer from grooming. They were able to groom the mine trails Sunday early AM, Monday mid afternoon, and then again Wednesday early AM. Lots of skiers from Mat-Su Nordic and high level skiers from Anchorage (APU, Winter Stars and UAA), as well as many recreational skiers. MSSC will attempt to regroom Saturday early AM, Possibly Sunday early AM as well as several times next week.
Trail conditionsCurrently the mine trails are ungroomed because of "flat Light" conditions and 1 foot of heavy ,wet, snow. The forecast is for improving conditions Saturday AM and we will re-groomed then, if possible.

Comments Mat-Su Ski Club is working with State Parks and DOT to keep grooming the mine trails as far into May as possible. Our goal is to groom the mine trails early in the morning on either a Saturday or Sunday and an early morning grooming session mid-week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). We may groom more frequently if more volunteer groomers are available. Check the ski club website for updates.

Trail conditionsConsistent wet snow and rain during the day with temperatures barely staying below freezing overnight means an end to the snowtrail grooming season for Curry Ridge Riders as of 4/24/26. Mushy creek crossings with overflow may be passible for a 600lb snowmachine but not for a 4000lb snowcat pulling a grooming drag! We have no reports this week of creek crossing conditions but as of the end of last week, Railroad Creek and Cygnet Creek crossings on the Chulitna Bluff Trail were still solid but Trapper Creek was flooded with overflow. Trapper Creek Winter Trail to the south is impassible as of last week with widespread flooded swamps across the entire area. There are no recent reports on East-West Express Trail but creek crossings were overflowed by 4/19. Tokositna Loop Trail is closed to motorized as is Denali State Park for the remainder of spring. There is still quite a bit of snow but if you do venture out in any manner, across South Denali--- expect to get wet!
