Common Plan Review Deficiencies

    Plan Review Courtesy Checklist

    The Fire and Life Safety Division of the Central Mat-Su Fire Department will be conducting a review on your building. Below you will find a list of commonly identified deficiencies that reviewers encounter. This list is not all inclusive. Thank you for helping us to ensure the safety of our fire service area.

    Common Deficiencies

    • Incomplete building code studies for new buildings and additions

    • Site plans that lack complying emergency fire access roads

    • Site plans that do not provide available water flow information, size and location of water mains, and the distance and locations to hydrants

    • Fire department connections that are not in an accessible location near the front entry point of the building

    • Fire extinguisher classification type and mounting locations are not detailed

    • Emergency lights/exit signs

    • Two exit paths (occupancy loads)

    • Hazardous materials inventory statements are not provided

    • Complete information and design details for high-piled storage areas are not provided as outlined in the IFC Chapter 23

    • Fire protection systems

    • Required fire separations

    • Dimensional site plan

    • Heating and ventilation systems i.e., BTU's

    • Rise and run of stairs, guards, handrails

    • Width of stairs and corridors

    • Fuel tanks: the UL type, size, and location

    • Construction details of foundation, walls, roof, and floor

    • Missing structural calculations. If your drawings specify a structural element, there needs to be math supporting it.
