Public Records
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough public records policy, procedures, and regulations ensure that citizens have access to public records and that the public right to remain informed is protected. Public records are located in all divisions of the Borough. The production of public records is consistent with MSB 1.50.030-1.50.060, and state and federal law. (At the Federal Level this is called a FOIA request.) Access includes the right to inspect the requested records, to receive copies of the records, or both, whenever possible.
If the records are not confidential or privileged, the records should be provided immediately, reducing the amount of time and paperwork involved in processing the request.
Fees
AS 40.25.110 states that if the production of records for one requestor in a calendar month exceeds five person hours, the Borough shall require the requestor to pay the personnel costs as required during the month to complete the search and copy tasks.
The personnel costs may not exceed the actual salary and benefit costs for the personnel time required to perform the search and copy task. Projected costs of $50 or less may be paid at the time the records are provided to the requestor. Projected costs exceeding $50 shall be paid in advance. The difference between actual and projected costs will be paid or refunded at the time the records are provided.
The Borough does not charge for a copy of a public records required by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Department of Community and Economic Development, or by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to be used in determining the eligibility of a person to participate in benefits (see AS 40.25.121).

Central Mat-Su Fire Department
The service area includes the City of Wasilla and extends from the Parks and Glenn Highway intersection west to Vine Road, north to Mile 7 of Wasilla-Fishhook Road, and south to Mile 6 of Point MacKenzie Road.

Fire
Mat-Su Fire covers eight Fire Service Areas around the borough.
Fire and Life Safety Division
We conduct all fire and life safety plan reviews and inspections, as well as, fire prevention and education activities for the Central Mat-Su Fire Service Area (FSA).

Dealing with fire code, fire inspections, and other duties of the Fire Marshalls.
