Fire Investigations
The Fire and Life Safety Division is responsible for Fire and Explosion Investigations in the Central Mat-Su Fire Service Area of the Matanuska Susitna Borough.

13 AAC 52.010 - Investigation of fires
(a) The state fire marshal, or the marshal's authorized representative, may investigate, or cause to be investigated, the origin, cause, and circumstances of each fire occurring in the state which is of suspicious nature or which involves loss of life, or serious injury to a person, or by which property is destroyed or substantially damaged. The investigation will begin as soon as practical. If it appears that a fire is of suspicious origin, the state fire marshal must be immediately notified of the facts by the investigating officer.
(b) At any time during the course of a fire investigation, the state fire marshal will, in the marshal's discretion, post at the entrance to a building or premises, a notice to read "KEEP OUT. BY ORDER OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL." After the sign is posted, it is unlawful for persons other than those authorized by the state fire marshal to enter the premises so posted.

Butte Fire Department
The Butte Fire Department was established in 1953 and provides fire protection services to the Butte and Knik River communities.
Central Mat-Su Fire Department
The service area includes the City of Wasilla and extends from the Parks and Glenn Highway intersection west to Vine Road, north to Mile 7 of Wasilla-Fishhook Road, and south to Mile 6 of Point MacKenzie Road.

Mat-Su Fire covers eight Fire Service Areas around the borough.
Fire and Life Safety Division
We conduct all fire and life safety plan reviews and inspections, as well as, fire prevention and education activities for the Central Mat-Su Fire Service Area (FSA).
Sutton Fire Department
Sutton Volunteer Fire and Rescue is proudly staffed by community volunteers and serves as a local fire department in Sutton, AK. Operating out of 1 station and classified as a volunteer organization. Headquartered at Mile 61 Glen HWY, Sutton, AK, 99674.
Talkeetna Fire Department
The Talkeetna Fire Department (TFD) provides fire protection along the Talkeetna Spur Road corridor and portions of the Parks Highway from approximately Mile 95 to Mile 100. TFD also provides rescue services throughout the northern Susitna Valley.
West Lakes Fire Department
The West Lakes Fire Department is a paid-on call agency providing fire suppression, rescue, fire prevention, and public education services.
Willow Caswell Fire Department
In November of 2024 the service area boards for both Willow and Caswell initiated a formal consolidation to create the Willow Caswell Fire Service Area.
