Org Unit
Planning Division
Planning and land use regulation are one the MSB’s mandatory powers. Planning Division staff develop plans, reports, studies, and maps about how land could be used, or conserved, to support quality of life within the Borough. Staff work with the community to provide a full picture to MSB advisory boards and elected officials as they consider issues that directly impact every resident of the borough.
The Borough Comprehensive Plan (MSB 15.24.030) includes goals related to:
Transportation
Hazard Mitigation
Health and General Welfare
Orderly Development
Environment
Natural Resource Preservation
Property Value Preservation
Economic Development
Essential Public Services
Three advisory boards are staffed by Long Range Planning staff (see Boards/Commission links below). Meeting dates, times, location and attendance options can be found at the Boards/Commissions pages and on the MSB Public Meetings calendar.
Long range plans are primarily implemented through other MSB teams, or by other entities with jurisdiction and funding for specific projects (for example: MSB Permitting; MSB Platting; MSB Dept. of Public Works; Alaska Dept. of Transportation & Public Facilities; Community Councils; etc.).
